Anchorage
sits between the Chugach Mountains to the east and Cook Inlet to the
West and is located in south-central Alaska. Founded in 1915 at the
mouth of Ship Cheek, it served as a drop off point for men and materials
to build the Alaska Railroad. The municipality of Anchorage covers an
expanse of almost 2,000 miles, an area about the size of the state of
Delaware. As Alaska’s largest city, Anchorage has grown into the state’s
primary center for business and cultural activities. Today almost half
of Alaska’s population of 650,000 people live in the Anchorage area.
