Glacier
Ice Climbing

Ice Climbing
There is no better or
easier terrain to learn ice climbing than on an alpine glacier. Our
one day seminar is a great introduction to this wonderful sport.
Once at the glacier's edge, class begins. Cramponing is one of the
most important basic skills and we will teach and practice several
techniques. Using our new skills, we will hike to a series of ice
cliffs, exploring the azure pools and waterfalls along the way. We
will practice front pointing and ice tool use on terrain of varying
steepness. Next we will grab the rope and ice screws and set up an
anchor. The day will be spent learning and practicing knots, rope
work, belaying, and body position. The experienced guides will
illustrate several ice climbing techniques and then its your turn!
You'll have the opportunity to climb several cliffs, staying within
your own comfort zone. After a full day on the ice, we'll retrace
our steps to Kennecott. We have taught ice climbing to adventurers
as young as 7, and 70.

The Wrangell and St. Elias Ranges are some of the most
remote and wild mountains in the world. Weather at times is
savage, we highly recommend giving yourself enough time to
explore this wilderness with weather delays taken into
account! We recommend purchasing a travel insurance policy,
as no refunds will be given due to weather.
All
Prices are per person. All multi-day expeditions require a
50% non-refundable advance payment.
