Alpine
Hiking

Castle Mountain
Though we start out on
an old wagon road, we soon cut off onto an obscure game trail and
battle our way through brush, along an alpine ridge and finally over
a rock glacier to arrive at the base of Castle Mountain. Here we can
explore the time-cleansed ruins, weathered wood and relics of the
Jumbo Mine. Climbing behind the mine, we can access Bonanza Ridge
itself and are rewarded with amazing views of both the Wrangell
Mountains to the west as well as the St. Elias Mountains to the
south and east. We gain over 3,000 vertical feet as we hike the 5
miles to the mine. Black bear and an occasional Grizzly can be seen.
Dall Sheep dot the rocky heights during certain times of the season.
Expect a long day of hiking, but the views are well worth the
effort.

The Wrangell and St. Elias Ranges are some of the most
remote and wild mountains in the world. Weather at times is
savage, we highly recommend giving yourself enough time to
explore this wilderness with weather delays taken into
account! We recommend purchasing a travel insurance policy,
as no refunds will be given due to weather.
All
Prices are per person. All multi-day expeditions require a
50% non-refundable advance payment.
