Mahay's Fishing Charters

Mahay's is situated at the confluence of the Talkeetna River and Susitna River. The Talkeetna River is part of the Susitna River drainage system which boasts the second largest run of migrating fish in the world and access to over 200 miles of prime fishing territory.

You can fish for all five species of salmon - King Salmon, Sockeye Salmon, Chum Salmon, Pink Salmon and Coho Salmon, in addition to Rainbow Trout, Dolly Varden and Arctic Grayling.

Our experienced guides will take you to some of their favorite fishing holes in 24' and 27' inboard jet boats. These trips includes all fishing gear (rod, reel, tackle, line, waders, ect.) excluding a fly rod if your a fly fisherman. During the charter you will travel to different areas of the river depending on how the fish have been migrating.. All you need to bring is food and beverages, rain gear, warm jacket, sweater, toiletries, sunglasses, warm wading socks, causal clothing, and camera with extra film for a wonderful day on our Alaskan waters. Our boats are equipped with overhead canopies to protect you from the weather. These boats are specialized boats that allow access to areas areas seldom fished in Alaska. Our cruising speed is approximately 35 mph and the boats require only 8 inches of water to operate.

Mahay's Jet Boat Safaris

The Jetboat and Deluxe Jetboats tours begin aboard the fifty-one passenger "Talkeetna Queen" as it whisks you into the heart of the wilderness in comfort. This is the most technologically advanced river jetboat in Alaska designed to safely navigate rivers that were previously inaccessible. It is glass-domed, environmentally controlled, and has an onboard restroom for your comfort.

Upon arriving at our Safari sight you will take a 1/4 mile leisurely nature walk. You will visit an authentic trapper’s cabin with its original furnishings and view how trappers lived in "Bush" Alaska at the turn of the century. Your experienced guide will display raw furs from the local area and demonstrate trapping methods.

Naturalists will acquaint you with the wildflowers and plants that grow in abundance along the river system and you will learn about the edible plants that were used by the Native Indians for cooking and medicines.

The Talkeetna Canyon Tours is for the more adventuresome soul. Please dress warmly and wear comfortable and sturdy walking shoes. You will travel 50 miles roundtrip through the entirety of the lower Talkeetna Canyon.

Hold on tight as we take you through class 3 and 4 whitewater! Marvel at the sheer rock walls of the canyon that close in upon you while passing through stretches of river that have been narrowed to 10 yards by these canyon walls.

This is a high adventure trip, designed for the hardy adventurer wishing to experience the thrill of the ultimate Alaskan river experience. A boxed lunch is included in this half day adventure. Experience the unforgettable beauty of this vast and remote wilderness on this four hour river adventure.

On both trips as you travel the river you will have opportunities to view nesting bald eagles, beaver activity, and moose and you just might see black bear and grizzly bear roaming the shore. Stand in the splendor of Denali and the Alaska Range from a spectacular vantage point on the Susitna River! Be sure to bring you camera.

Wildlife, folklore, artifacts and a panoramic view of Denali in the Alaska Range combine to make this an unforgettable and unique Alaskan river adventure.
