Don’t miss Talkeetna! Located 115 miles north of Anchorage and 43 miles south of Denali National Park, Talkeetna is the staging spot for those climbing Mt. McKinley. From here you can fly around the mountain, land on a glacier, or catch a "King" in one of the three rivers in the area. Some of the best views of Denali are available from the Talkeetna area. From the Parks Highway, drive 14 miles on the Talkeetna Spur Road to the center of town. The inhabitants of this small community of less than 500 people often boast that they were the inspiration for the television series "Northern Exposure." Whether true or not, Talkeetna certainly is a fine example of an Alaskan style small-town.
